“Humans can’t survive without water. Music is water to me,” says Dr Matthew Lau, alumnus and part-time lecturer in the Department of Music.

Sometimes we don’t need high marks to achieve our dreams. Matthew didn’t perform particularly well in secondary school, but his interest in music led to him joining the HKBU Department of Music. He finally obtained a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in the USA following a scholarship and became a professional percussionist. Now, he is also a lecturer at HKBU where he is working to help nurture the next generation of musical talents.
