Professor Mette Hjort: Developing multidisciplinary arts and culture niches
18 Dec 2019
"I love the focus on being creative, caring and global. I really believe in liberal arts, and I think that whole person education is incredibly important.” says Professor Mette Hjort, HKBU’s Dean of Arts.
It was a Talent100 advert that attracted Professor Hjort to HKBU from Denmark. Having previously worked in Hong Kong, she missed Hong Kong’s university sector and the entrepreneurial drive one finds here, as well as the synergy between teaching and learning. Since joining HKBU in 2018, Professor Hjort’s priority has been to develop a faculty niche research area of “Wellbeing, Value and the Public Good” and she has built up a strong research environment with many fresh ideas and rich possibilities. She was also named as one of Hong Kong's Women Leaders at the recent World Women Leadership Award ceremony.
