In addition to broadening your international horizons and experiencing foreign cultural customs, while on an overseas exchange you can also make friends with people from all over the world and experience the learning environment at different universities. Sander Chair Shun-tuen from the HKBU School of Business visited the BI Norwegian Business School for a semester during an overseas exchange in his third year of university study. For Sander, the most memorable experience was being able to get along with people from different countries. "I went to more than 20 European countries during this overseas exchange. In addition to appreciating their unique culture and customs, I also discovered many beautiful natural places. The most unforgettable thing is that I made many friends from all over the world during the journey. This made me more confident when communicating with foreigners and learning about their culture through it, which broadened my horizons," he says.

During the journey, Sander really jumped out of his comfort zone. In order to save travel expenses, he chose to stay in a youth hostel and tried many "firsts", including spending the night at the airport, travelling to strange places and facing all kinds of difficulties alone.

"Overseas learning is the most unforgettable experience of my life. I will never forget what I have learned, seen, and experienced. Moreover, the experience has also helped me a lot in my career. After I returned to Hong Kong from the exchange, I went to two different companies for internships: one was a local start-up company; the other was a multinational company. The overseas exchange experience has made me more confident when expressing my opinions in front of colleagues, and my ability to work independently has also been greatly improved," he says.
