The Faculty of Social Sciences of HKBU recently signed a co-operation agreement with Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) to strengthen the research and academic collaboration. The agreement was signed on 31 May by Professor Adrian Bailey, Dean of Social Sciences, and Professor Chen Guanghan, Dean of the Centre for Studies of Hong Kong, Macao and Pearl River Delta of SYSU.
The agreement marks a significant step in the co-operation between two universities and underlines the commitment of both to strengthen research and academic excellence through a themed project “Research on Co-operation Demonstration Zones of Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macao”. Under the agreement, both parties will carry out important theoretical and practical research studies in the demonstration zones of Shenzhen Qianhai, Guangzhou Nansha and Zhuhai Hengqin – the new “Golden Triangle” in Guangdong. The three coastal areas have been designated by the central government as important economic development zones with close ties to Hong Kong and Macao.
Besides, both institutions are committed to establishing an academic exchange platform for the study of Hong Kong, Macao and the Pearl River Delta area. It is envisaged that a range of collaborative activities, such as visiting scholar programmes, joint-postgraduate programmes, symposia and workshops, and mutual visits of academics and researchers will be realised in the near future.
