The Department of Mathematics of HKBU hosted the 6th International Conference on Scientific Computing and Partial Differential Equations (SCPDE) in early June. Since 2002, the SCPDE conference has been held every three years to promote research in this field. All the conferences have been held at HKBU.
This year, the SCPDE conference was officiated by the Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau Mr Eric Berti and HKBU President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Roland Chin. Speakers included Fields Medalist Professor Pierre-Louis Lions; Members of the French Academy of Sciences Professors Philippe Ciarlet, Jean-Michel Coron and Olivier Pironneau; Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Engineering Sciences Professor Bjorn Engquist; Member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences Professor Stanley Osher; and National Medal of Science winner and Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering Professor Richard Tapia.
The SCPDE 2017 was also dedicated to the 80th birthday of Professor Roland Glowinski, world renowned mathematician and University Distinguished Professor of HKBU Department of Mathematics. Each year, Professor Glowinski visits the Department and presents lectures, shares new mathematical results, and discusses research with colleagues and students.
