Representatives of the School of Business from HKBU and Nankai University in Tianjin, China, signed a collaborative agreement on 16 May to mark the launching of the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) Programme on the Mainland commencing in September 2013. As the first DBA programme offered by HKBU on the Mainland, it aims to broaden participants’ management knowledge and horizons, hone their critical thinking and strategy-generation skills as well as to equip them with the skills needed for conducting independent research required to identify the challenges and opportunities facing organisations.

Representing the two universities in signing the collaborative agreement were Professor Stephen Cheung, Dean of the School of Business, HKBU, and Professor Zhang Yuli, Dean of Business School, Nankai University. Professor Stephen Cheung said: “The DBA programme is HKBU’s flagship programme and our first DBA programme on the Mainland. This new development further strengthens our relationship with Nankai University and students can also take advantage of the high quality of teaching and learning at the two universities.”

Professor Zhang Yuli said: “We are pleased to collaborate with HKBU to offer this DBA programme. I would like to thank both parties for their effort in making this happen. We look forward to having our very first batch of students in September and to exploring further collaboration with HKBU’s School of Business in the future.”

This integrated doctoral programme is specifically designed for researchers, candidates engaged in management education or senior management who aspire to further develop their understanding of management beyond the Master’s degree level. Through the combination of taught courses and the application of rigorous research methods, candidates will learn how to effectively lead change, make strategic decisions and enhance corporate accountability in the dynamic business world while their managerial skills and strategic knowledge are enriched as well.
