A team led by Dr Kwong Chi-man, Assistant Professor of the Department of History, received HK$1.57 million from the Quality Education Fund (QEF) to develop an interactive historical map for secondary schools about the Battle of Hong Kong in December 1941. The innovative project aims to stimulate students’ interest in history and STEM learning.

The team will utilise the Historical Geographic Information System (GIS), a system that can display, store and analyse past geographical data and track changes in time, to create the map. They will also design related teaching kits for secondary school teachers and equip them with the competencies required for GIS teaching. The project will help foster the development of historical studies.

Members of Dr Kwong’s team include Professor Clara Ho, Professor Timothy Wong, Dr David Schley, Dr Tam Ka-chai and Dr Fan Wing-chung from HKBU’s Department of History, and Mr Tony Banham, Mr Tsoi Yiu-lun and Mr Ko Tim-keung, who are military history scholars.
