The School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) joined the Institute of Medicinal Plant Development of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and the World Publishing Corporation to launch the Encyclopedia of Medicinal Plants (2nd Edition) and celebrate the 500th anniversary of the birth of Li Shizhen in Beijing in October. Over 200 local and overseas experts and practitioners in the field attended the event.

The publication was co-edited by SCM’s Associate Dean Professor Zhao Zhongzhen and distinguished ethnopharmacologist Professor Xiao Peigen, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Based on first-hand data collected from field studies in the places of origin of over 800 medicinal plants and areas of production of raw medicinal materials across Asia and Europe, the 4-volume book series features information on pharmacology, botany, chemistry and other disciplines.

The first edition was launched in 2006 with traditional Chinese, English and Korean versions. The second edition has been enriched with information on the latest findings in research on medicinal herbs and incorporates digital technology.
