EDUC 30th Anniversary Symposium on creative praxis for well-learning in smart societies
01 Nov 2019
Around 200 participants including school principals and teachers attended the symposium entitled “Creative Praxis for Well-Learning in Smart Societies”, which was organised by the HKBU Department of Education Studies (EDUC) on 12 October to commence its 30th anniversary celebrations.
The symposium was officiated by Professor Roland Chin, HKBU President and Vice-Chancellor, and Dr Christine Choi, Under Secretary for Education of the HKSAR Government. Dr Choi praised EDUC’s research achievements, as evident in the Research Assessment Exercise. She also commended EDUC for its contributions to the professional development of educators.
Professor Atara Sivan, Head of EDUC, shared in her welcoming speech that the theme of the symposium aligned with the University’s “Creative Media/Practice” and “Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence in X” research clusters, where X denotes applications in education, and that it was appositely articulated by the research niche area of “Smart Societies” in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Mr Pasi Silander, a Finnish educational futurist, delivered a keynote address on phenomenon-based learning in the age of digitalisation to inspire teachers with the latest global developments in education.
