Witnessed by more than 60 guests, the European Union Academic Programme (EUAP), a consortium of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University and co-financed by the European Union (EU), was officially launched on 2 May.

Officiating guests included Mr. Vincent Piket, Head of the European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macau; Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development) of HKBU; Professor Jean-Pierre Cabestan, Director General of EUAP and Head and Professor of the Department of Government and International Studies at HKBU; and Professor Hans Werner Hess, Deputy Director of EUAP and Professor of Government and International Studies at HKBU.

Located at HKBU, the programme aims at strengthening EU-Hong Kong relations through academic work and enhancing the understanding of the EU. The Hong Kong Model European Union attracted more than 30 students from the four member universities as participants. Awards were presented at the EUAP opening reception. The five award recipients were HKBU students. Wong Ming-yeung (Government and International Studies, Year 2), Ana Lejava (exchange student) and Joscelin Yeung (Social Sciences, Year 1) scooped the Outstanding Head of Government Awards while Clancey Bridget Meave To and Ken Lai (European Studies  - French stream, Year 2 ) clinched the Honourable Recognition Awards.
