The University Library held the Linked Data and the Semantic Web: Current Trends and Opportunities Symposium on 4 March. The event featured four speakers: Dr Philip Schreur from Stanford University, USA; Dr Sophy Chen from the Academia Sinica, Taiwan; Ms Xia Cuijuan from the Shanghai Library; and Mr Lam Ki-tat from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

As the first event on library linked data held in the region, the symposium examined how to enrich library data with additional information and relationships. The speakers provided insights on the transition from legacy library data to linked open data to optimise the discovery and exchange of information.
