HKBU holds Foundation dinner to thank supporters

HKBU hosted its annual Foundation dinner last Friday (27 October) to express heartfelt thanks to supporters for their tremendous contributions to the University over the years. Around 130 people attended the dinner, including HKBU Foundation members, board members, donors, supporters, staff, alumni and students of HKBU.
Chairman of the HKBU Foundation Dr Wilfred Wong shared at the dinner the University’s latest development. He expressed his gratitude to HKBU friends from all sectors of society for their caring support and generosity over the years which have enabled the University to achieve further advancement and excellence in teaching and research.
President Chin said the major principles underpinned by liberal arts education are innovation, flexibility and thinking from multiple perspectives. This is also the education ethos that HKBU has upheld for decades. He mentioned that in recent years the University has been striving to promote internationlisation and has established a number of new scholarship schemes to further broaden students’ global horizons. In addition, the University also hopes that all HKBU undergraduates will have overseas exchange opportunities. President Chin added that HKBU plans to recruit 100 outstanding scholars from around the world to further enhance the teaching and research quality of the University.
This year marks the eighth anniversary of the establishment of the HKBU Foundation. Its membership has grown steadily to 633 as of October this year, an impressive growth of 383% since its inception in 2009. The Foundation has managed to raise around HK$1.3 billion over the past eight years, helping the University implement an array of advancement projects of far-reaching impact.
