HKBU hosts events to promote cross-institutional service-learning
15 Jan 2021
The Centre for Innovative Service-Learning recently organised the “Service-Learning X design-thinking workshop” and the “Building an engaged service-learning community” symposium to promote cross-institutional collaboration in service-learning.
At the “Service-Learning X design-thinking workshop” held on 21 and 22 November 2020, around 50 students from various higher education institutions teamed up and presented creative community project proposals to a judging panel comprising representatives from universities and the Wofoo Leaders’ Network. Each of the three winning teams were awarded HK$10,000 in start-up funding to turn their innovative ideas into reality.
The “Building an engaged service-learning community” symposium, held online on 18 December 2020, attracted more than 100 scholars and staff from all the eight UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong. Presenters from local and overseas universities shared their insights, best practices and experiences of service-learning.
The events were initiatives under the UGC-funded project “Cross-institutional Capacity Building for Service-Learning in Hong Kong Higher Education Institutions”. Jointly organised by HKBU, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Education University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University since 2018, the project aims to share service-learning experiences among UGC-funded institutions.
