The University has received a generous donation of HK$3 million from the Rebecca Chan Care Foundation for Education in support of the establishment of the Rebecca Chan First-Generation University Student Fund. The Fund will help eight first-generation university students at HKBU participate in outside-of-classroom learning activities each year, which will aid their whole person development and enable them to explore future career opportunities.

The Rebecca Chan Care Foundation for Education was founded with the estate of Ms Rebecca Chan Chi-fun, former Director of Kan Hing Plastic Products Factory Limited (now known as Tiger Enterprise Corporation). The Chan family has been a longstanding supporter of HKBU, making generous donations to the University, and the School of Chinese Medicine in particular, through the Chan Hon Yin Couple Charity Trust.

Ms Rebecca Chan’s brother Mr Anthony Chan, Managing Director of Tiger Enterprise Corporation, currently serves as a Member of the Board of Governors of the HKBU Foundation. He has been providing strategic advice on the fundraising endeavours of the University. His daughter Ms Donna Chan, who is the sole executrix of Ms Rebecca Chan Chi-fun’s estate, and his son Mr Alan Chan, who is a Member of the Young Entrepreneur Committee of the HKBU Foundation, are also very supportive of HKBU’s advancement.
