The HKBU Symphony Orchestra held its annual Gala Concert last night (14 June) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre with famous soprano Ms Nicole Cabell as guest performer.

 

Conducted by Professor Johnny Poon, Head of the Department of Music and Music Director of the Concert, the Orchestra performed Richard Strauss’s Vier letzte Lieder, Puccini’s La Rondine: Chi il bel sogno di Doretta, La Bohème: Donde lieta uscì, Gianni Schicchi: O mio babbino caro and La Bohème: Quando m’en vo with Ms Cabell, and also performed Richard Strauss’s Don Juan and Tchaikovsky’s Capriccio Italien.

 

Ms Nicole Cabell graduated from the Eastman School of Music. She was the winner of the BBC Singer of the World Competition in Cardiff in 2005, and also won first place in both the Palm Beach Opera Vocal Competition and the Women’s Board of Chicago Vocal Competition. Her solo debut album “Soprano” was named “Editor’s Choice” by Gramophone, and received the Georg Solti Orphée d’Or 2007 presented by the French Académie du Disque Lyrique, and an Echo Klassik Award in Germany.
