SCM holds Distinguished Lecture and Chinese medicine seminar

The School of Chinese Medicine (SCM) hosted on 18 September a lecture by Professor Zhang Qicheng, Dean of the School of Chinese Classics, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM). He spoke on “The Enchantment of Chinese Medicine Culture” under the HKBU 60th Anniversary Shun Hing Distinguished Lecture Series. On the same day, SCM also joined hands with the Hong Kong chapters of the alumni associations of four Mainland universities, namely BUCM, the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM), the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (GZUCM) and the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CDUTCM) to hold a Chinese medicine seminar on “Inheritance, Innovation and Exchange”. The lecture and seminar were enthusiastically received, with an audience of more than 600 comprising teachers, students and alumni of SCM and other local institutions, alumni of the four Mainland universities and local registered Chinese medicine practitioners.
Officiating at the opening ceremony of the joint academic event were Professor Wang Shengliang, President of GZUCM; Professor Wang Wei, Vice President of BUCM; Professor He Xinghai, Vice President of SHUTCM; Professor Peng Cheng, Vice President of CDUTCM; Professor Rick Wong, Vice-President (Research and Development) of HKBU; Professor Lu Aiping, Dean of SCM, HKBU; Professor Zhao Zhongzhen, President of the Hong Kong and Macau Alumni Association of BUCM and Associate Dean of SCM, HKBU; Dr Zhang Ge, President of the Hong Kong Alumni Association of SHUTCM and Director of the Technology Development Division of SCM, HKBU; Dr Chen Jianping, President of the Hong Kong Alumni Association of CDUTCM; Dr Wu Ka, President of the Hong Kong Alumni Association of GZUCM; Professor Lao Lixing, Dean of the School of Chinese Medicine, The University of Hong Kong; Professor Lin Zhixiu, Acting Director of the School of Chinese Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong; Dr Chan Wing-kwong, President of the Hong Kong Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners Association; and Mr Tommy Li, Executive Chairman of the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Industry Association.
In addition to Professor Zhang Qicheng, whose talk was sponsored by the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund, a total of 11 speakers, including National TCM Masters and renowned scholars of the four Mainland universities and SCM, also delivered talks on a variety of topics.
On the same occasion, SCM held the unveiling ceremony of the Chinese Medicine Culture Wall, which is installed on the SCM building. Officiating at the ceremony were Professor Zhang Qicheng, Professor Rick Wong, Professor Lu Aiping, and Professor Zhao Zhongzhen. The Chinese Medicine Culture Wall features Chinese medicine quotes provided by staff, students and alumni of SCM portraying the visions and aspirations of the SCM community and promoting the culture of Chinese medicine. The colourful mural featuring the number “6020” also serves to celebrate the 60th anniversary of HKBU and heralds the upcoming 20th anniversary of SCM.
