The Hong Kong Baptist University Library and Academy of Visual Arts (AVA) is co-organising a special exhibition on ex libris (bookplates) to promote appreciation, creation and collection of bookplates—a slip of paper bearing the name of the book's owner inside a book.

The exhibition The Art of Prints x Especially for Books: Special Exhibition on International Ex Libris features about seventy bookplates made recently by artists from different countries. Some of the bookplates are displayed alongside the woodcut and copperplate print originals.

An opening ceremony was held on 20 April officiated by Director of AVA Professor John Aiken, University Librarian Mr Kendall Crilly, ex libris collector Mr Edward Wong, Assistant Professor of National Taiwan University of Art Dr Ni Yu-an, participating artist Ms Hung Malou, and Curator and Research Assistant Professor of AVA Dr Sarah Ng. On the same day, Dr Ni Yu-an delivered two public lectures on the history of bookplates in Taiwan and contemporary Taiwanese art culture.

The ex libris exhibition is being held in the University Library until 31 May. For details of the exhibition and related activities, please refer to: http://hkbu.libguides.com/exhibitions/exlibris
