Liang Yanfeng (Creative and Professional Writing, Year 4) won first place in the inaugural HKBU Century Club Citywide English Poetry Competition with her work “The Last Night Before Lunar New Year”.

Open for the first time to all eight UGC-funded universities in Hong Kong, this year’s competition saw over 120 entries. Award-winning poet Dr Sarah Howe from the UK, serving as the international judge, praised Yanfeng as a talented poet who knows how to let the gaps and silences between the words speak powerfully for themselves.

In addition to the alumni body HKBU Century Club, the newly designed competition was supported by the Department of English Language and Literature, the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing, and the International Writers’ Workshop in association with the Hong Kong Poetry Festival Foundation.
