HKBU announces the appointment of major officers of its Council and Court

HKBU announced today (8 February 2013) the appointment by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR of Mr. Cheng Yan-kee (鄭恩基), Mrs. Pamela Chan Wong Shui (陳黃穗) and Mrs. Doreen D.L. Chan (陳許多琳) as Chairman, Deputy Chairman and Treasurer respectively of the Council and the Court of HKBU for a term ending 31 December 2015.

 

“The University welcomes the appointments and is delighted to have the wise guidance and counsel of Mr. Cheng Yan-kee, Mrs. Pamela Chan and Mrs. Doreen Chan as well as other distinguished Council, Court and Honorary Court members in steering HKBU towards the goals set down in its development blueprint,” said Professor Albert Chan, President and Vice-Chancellor. “We look forward to working closely with them to develop the University into the best regional provider of Whole Person Education with a focus on quality teaching and learning, innovative research, and dedicated service to the community.”

 

Mr. Cheng Yan-kee is Managing Director of H.K. Cheng & Partners Ltd., Mrs. Pamela Chan is Chairman of the Hong Kong Deposit Protection Board while Mrs. Doreen Chan is Director of Strategic Development, China Graduate School of Theology.

 

Mr. Cheng has served as Council member of the University since 1999 and as Deputy Chairman of the Council and the Court since 2007. Mrs. Doreen Chan has been a Council member of the University since 2007. Both of them have made substantial contributions to the work of the Council and the Court and rendered great support to the University on various fronts.

 

The University is also pleased that other distinguished members of the community have been newly appointed to its Council by the Chief Executive. They are: Ms. Mabel M.B. Chan (陳美寶), Founding Partner, Mabel Chan & Co. Certified Public Accountants; Mr. Michael W.K. Hui (許華傑), Managing Director, Freedom Industrial Corporation Ltd; Ms. Scarlett O.L. Pong (龐愛蘭), Elected Member, HKSAR Sha Tin District Council; Ms. Karen S.T. Tang (鄧淑德), Executive Director, The Better Hong Kong Foundation; and Mr. Thomas J. Wu (胡文新), Managing Director, Hopewell Holdings Ltd.

 

In addition, HKBU is pleased to have Dr. Alfred K.T. Tan (陳慶忠), Head of HKBU’s Knowledge Transfer Office, and Mr. Lau Man-hin (劉文軒), Honorary Deputy General Secretary of The Baptist Convention of Hong Kong, as new Court members.

 

HKBU is also happy to have the following distinguished members of the community joining the University as new Honorary Court members: Mr. Raymond K.S. Kwok (郭家聲), Director, Chart One Ltd and Eagle Wide Ltd; Mr. Jimmy T.M. Liu (劉紀明), Executive Director, Elite Industrial Holdings Ltd; Dr. Lo Tai-chin (羅台秦), Chief Executive Officer, KHOC Optical Company Ltd; Dr. Matthew Y.C. Lui (呂宇俊), Principal, Graceyard Education Centre; Mr. Dickson T.Y. Shang (尚達人), former Executive Director, HSBC Broking Service (Asia) Ltd; and Mr. Bernard T.L. Wu (吳德龍), Managing Director of ABCI Investment Management Limited, Agricultural Bank of China.


The University expresses its deepest appreciation to Mr. Wilfred Y.W. Wong (王英偉), and Mr. William W.C. Leung (梁永祥), the outgoing Chairman and Treasurer respectively of the Council and the Court. President Chan said: “Mr. Wong and Mr. Leung have demonstrated their able leadership of and outstanding services to the two governing bodies and made tremendous contributions to the University over a long period. Their selfless devotion to the work of the University and steadfast commitment to the cause of education have won them the respect of the University community.”

 

Mr. Wong served as Deputy Chairman from 2002 to 2006 and as Chairman since 2007 while Mr. Leung served as Treasurer since 2007.

 

Sincere appreciation also goes to Council members Ms. Quince W.Y. Chong (莊偉茵), Mr. William C.L. Hui (許晉廉) and Dr. Philip P.H. Wu (伍步謙) as well as Court members Professor Patrick W.C. Lau (劉永松) and Rev. Peter C.S. Tsui (徐彼得) who have completed their term of service at the end of 2012.
