HKBU tennis team won the Zhuhai College Tennis Championships, a considerable feat given that it was their first time joining the competition. 

Captain Lam Lai-lei (Sport and Recreational Leadership, Year 4) remarked that the competition posed a huge challenge to their stamina as all events, including men’s singles and doubles, women’s singles and doubles, and mixed doubles, were scheduled to take place in a span of only two days, therefore players might have to take part in four to five events a day, instead of the usual practice of two events a day.

In addition, the competition rules and culture in the Mainland differ from those in Hong Kong. Lai-lei said the coach changed the training focus accordingly to build the right chemistry among teammates and to adjust the competition strategy which enabled teammates to adapt to the new competition mode in advance. With strong morale, the team won the Championships finally.
