Fresh International Journalism graduate Christy Leung was winner in the Best in News Video Reporting category of the 2015-16 China Daily Campus Newspaper Awards. In addition the three-member team of Amie Cheng, Lee Kwok-yee and Sun Qingchuan won the championship title in the Best in News Page Design category of the Awards.

For her award-winning video entitled “Taiwan Election”, Christy Leung went to Taipei to cover Taiwan‘s legislative elections. She said she chose this topic because it came after Taiwan’s Sunflower Student Movement protesting against a trade pact with the Mainland, and many young people were actively involved in it. She added that Hong Kong people could relate to the situation in Taiwan as Hong Kong held its District Council and Legislative Council elections after the Occupy Central movement.

In her reporting of the Taiwan election, Christy had to prepare three video reports in one week and she was constantly in a rush to conduct interviews, film, write scripts and edit reports. She was so busy she only had time for three or four hours of sleep a day. Fortunately, she had three team mates who helped her film and edit the videos, so she managed to overcome all the challenges.  Currently a broadcast journalist, Christy is looking forward to reporting on the next Taiwan election.

In addition, Zhou Yi (fresh graduate) and Lai Haocheng (Year 4) won the first-runner up title in the Best in Feature Writing category while Yanis Chan (fresh graduate) and Long Jinjin (Year 4) took the second-runner up title in the Best in Arts and Culture News Reporting category.

Organised by the China Daily Hong Kong Edition, the competition received more than 600 entries from 28 universities in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Mainland China.
