Three fresh HKBU graduates, Carson Poon (Geography and Liberal Studies Teaching), Chloe Lam (Music) and Leung King-heng (Music), have been selected as awardees of the Hong Kong Scholarship for Excellence Scheme (HKSES).  Honoured with the title of Hong Kong Scholars, they will pursue postgraduate studies overseas.

Carson says he is privileged to be awarded the scholarship and will study for a Master of Science in Psychology of Education degree at the University of Bristol in the UK. He says that in future, he wishes to make an impact on improving teaching and learning strategies for students with special education needs in Hong Kong. He also wants to put into practice his belief that “a teacher is like a candle -- it consumes itself while lighting the way for others”, and thereby acting as guides in helping youngsters find their future path.

Chloe will study for a Master of Music in Historical Performance degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in the UK. She said that the programme will enable her to engage in cultural exchanges and associations with world-renowned musicians and ensembles. In addition, the programme can guide her while she investigates and interprets historical evidence found both in treatises on early musical performances and in the mainstream repertory.

Meanwhile, King-heng will study for a Master of Music in Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games at the Berklee College of Music, Valencia Campus .

Offered by the HKSAR Government, the HKSES supports local students who seek to pursue studies in world-renowned universities outside Hong Kong. The goal is to groom a top cadre of talents with global vision, an international network and world-class education, thereby contributing to enhancing Hong Kong's competitiveness as Asia's world city in a globalised knowledge economy. Apart from academic achievements, the selection of awardees is based on key consideration of the non-academic attributes of an applicant. These include leadership qualities and potential, as well as his or her commitment and contribution to Hong Kong.
