HKBU international students receive Belt and Road Scholarship
11 Oct 2021
Fourteen HKBU international students who joined the University this academic year have been awarded the Belt and Road Scholarship by the HKSAR Government. They include 11 undergraduate and three research postgraduate students from Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Nepal, Nigeria, Ghana, Russia and Malaysia.
Uche Destiny Nnanna from Nigeria, who is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science programme, is one of the awardees. “Before coming to Hong Kong, I imagined the lush greenery singing to me as I walked through the Li Promenade, and beautiful friendships blossoming as I met new and wonderful people. Now my expectations have matched reality. It is incredibly humbling to be bestowed with this honour. It gives me reassurance that I have come to the right university with people always ready to support my study journey,” he said.
Another awardee is Sapan Kassymzhomart, a BBA student from Kazakhstan. He said he was delighted to receive the scholarship, and he expects to find new friends, make new connections, and explore this amazing city full of opportunities.
The Belt and Road Scholarship was established with a view to attracting more outstanding students from countries or regions along the Belt and Road, and it enables them to pursue full-time publicly-funded university studies in Hong Kong. Each year, all participating institutions receive invitations to nominate newly-enrolled students to compete for the awards. Awardees receive a scholarship to cover their full tuition fees.
