HKBU Judo Team wins championship at Joint College Competition(2013-4-18)

The HKBU’s Judo Team achieved remarkable results at the 24th Joint College Judo Competition held last week. The 16 athletes in the HKBU team competed against around 130 contestants from 12 local tertiary institutions and clinched the team championship and six individual awards. This is the fourth consecutive year that the HKBU team has won the overall championship in the tournament.

 

The HKBU athletes won two gold, one silver and three bronze medals in the individual contests. Ip Chi-ho (Social Work, Year 3) and Lam Lap-fung (Associate Degree, Year 2) won the first runner-up and second runner-up respectively in the male open grade. Chan Yin-kwan (European Studies, Year 4) and Wan Hiu-ching (Associate Degree, Year 2) claimed the second runner-up in the female open grade and female -52 kg grade respectively. Wong Sin-ting (Sport and Recreation Leadership, Year 3) and Chan Yuk-kwan (Associate Degree, Year 2) won the championship in the female -48 kg grade and female (junior) open grade respectively.

 

Ip Chi-ho, Lam Lap-fung, Chan Yin-kwan, Wong Sin-ting, Wan Hiu-ching and Chan Yuk-kwan together with Yu Kin-ting (Physical Education and Recreation Management, Year 1), Lai Mo-yin (Associate Degree, Year 1), Yuen Hoi-ying (Computer Science, Year 2), Yu Kin-leung (Associate Degree, Year 2), Chiu Tsz-kin (Associate Degree, Year 2), Li Ka-long (Associate Degree, Year 2) , Ng Hoi-ki (Associate Degree, Year 2), Chang Tsz-ching (Associate Degree, Year 1), Siu Wing-yi (Part-time Degree in Early Childhood Education) and Sum Long-ting (Associate Degree, Year 1) were members of the championship-winning team in the team competition.

 

Wan Hiu-ching, President of the Judo Club, said, “It was my honour to represent HKBU in the Joint College Judo Competition. Members practiced hard for the tournament and strived to achieve our goal as a team. I would like to thank my teammates for their efforts. I would also like to express my gratitude to our head coach Mr. Ngai Wai-wo and coaches Mr. David Lo and Ms. Abby Chu who have been supporting us for many years.” Hiu-ching hoped that the HKBU Judo Club would continue to display good team spirit and achieve more outstanding results on behalf of the University.

 

Ms. Abby Chu, also the President of the Judo Club Alumni Association, was thrilled with the team’s performance. She said, “Last year, the judo team won the tournament for the third consecutive year. The honour achieved this year belongs to all the athletes who have taken part in previous tournaments as well as the most recent one.   We will review this year’s performance and develop new techniques to help the team to achieve more brilliant results in the future.”
