HKBU mathematician Professor Michael Ng named Fellow by prestigious international body

Professor Michael Ng Kwok-po, Head and Chair Professor of the Department of Mathematics of HKBU was named 2017 Fellow of the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). Professor Ng is the only Asian fellow this year among 28 fellows selected from institutions worldwide . He will be presented with the honour during the SIAM Annual Meeting to be held in July 2017 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA.
The fellowship will be conferred on Professor Ng in recognition of his fundamental contributions to algorithms for structured linear systems and image processing. Professor Ng served as Associate Editor of SIAM Journal on Scientific Computing, SIAM Keynote Speaker of the 14th Conference of the International Linear Algebra Society, and the Secretary of East Asia SIAM Section, among other leadership positions, including co-chairing multiple SIAM conferences.
Since the SIAM fellowship programme began in 2009, there have only been 15 Asian fellows.
The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics is an international society of more than 14,000 individual, academic and corporate members from 85 countries. The Fellows were selected for their exemplary research as well as outstanding service to the community. Through their contributions, SIAM Fellows help to advance the fields of applied mathematics and computational science.
