HKBU students team up with athletes with intellectual disabilities to scoop silver medal at Special Olympics

Students Tong Hon-chi, Wong Chi-ho, Wong Tak-hin, Hui Nok-hang, Jeff Man, Lam Ching-hei, Stephen Ma and David Leung (Sport and Recreation Leadership, Year 3),  teamed up with eight athletes with intellectual disabilities to form the first ever Hong Kong Unified Floor Hockey Team and won a silver medal at the 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games.

 

Department of Physical Education has been a pioneer of Inclusive Sports and teamed up eight students with athletes with intellectual disabilities to participate in sports event. Led by Mr. Pang Ka-wai, Assistant Lecturer of Physical Education, the Hong Kong team beat Italy and Chinese Taipei to win their silver medal. The team’s achievement at the Special Olympics World Winter Games, held from 29 January to 5 February in Pyeong Chang, South Korea, marked a new era for the development of Unified Floor Hockey in Hong Kong.
