HKBU teams won three inaugural e-learning awards from eLearning Forum Asia (eLFA) with their outstanding teaching and learning projects.

The “Speak!” project – which was co-led by Department of Communication Studies lecturers Dr Kimmy Cheng and Mr Lau Cheuk-yan, and Department of Computer Science lecturer Dr Martin Choy – won the gold award in the Technology Innovation Award category. “Speak!” is a learning platform that helps students improve their public speaking skills by analysing their mastery of pitch, intensity and rate.

Department of Chemistry lecturer Gray Ho and his colleagues designed three mobile apps which have advanced the teaching and learning of chemistry beyond the classroom. The innovative project won silver in the Exemplary Teaching and Learning Award category.

Meanwhile, the “CCGame” project, which was led by the Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning team, won a silver award in the Community Outreach Award category. Through organising an international eTournament and a questions creation contest on UN sustainable development goals, students were encouraged to address global issues in an innovative way.
