HKBU teams shine at inter-collegiate cross country race
07 Dec 2017
HKBU athletes performed outstandingly once again at the Hong Kong University Sport Federation (USFHK) Cross Country Competition. They won the first runner-up prize in the Overall Championship, and first runner-up in the Men’s Overall Championship. In the individual events, Ngai Tin-yan (Physical Education and Recreation Management, Year 3) captured the silver medal in the Women’s Individual contest.
Tin-yan, captain of the HKBU women’s team, said that although 50 students took part in the tryouts this year, only 10 were recruited due to restrictions on team formation. Despite that, there was an overall renewal of membership which gave a big boost to team spirit. To pursue a better result, team members devoted themselves and took part in additional training; regardless of position, whether main runner or reserve, team members did their best in the competition. She added that every single team member or University team candidate is very important and valuable to the team.
After graduating this year from College of International Education of HKBU, Tin-yan continued her undergraduate study at the University. She was very excited to take part in the competition as a member of the University team again. She participated in eight competitions in November and considers this the most important event. Tin-yan said that self-confidence and setting one’s sights on producing a new personal best are keys to winning, which enabled her to focus on the event and gain other unexpected benefits.
