HKBU woodball and rugby teams achieved their best-ever result in intercollegiate competitions. The woodball team clinched the overall championship, and was ranked first in the men’s category and second in the women’s category while the rugby team won the championship title in the men’s and the first runner-up in the women’s competitions.

The woodball team realised their slogan “from zero to hero” with team spirit and action. Chu Chi-kwong (Physical Education and Recreation Management, Year 3) said their performance did not meet their expectations in the first round but they finally won the overall championship, which they had failed to capture in the past six years, and claimed the top title in the men’s category and first runner-up in the women’s category. Cheung Tsz-wei (Sport and Recreation Leadership, Year 3) added that the team’s journey does not end there; team members will keep their momentum and fight for an even better result next year.

Wong Chi-hung (History, Year 3), the captain of the men’s rugby team attributed the win to their comprehensive training that started in September last year. The skill level of team members has significantly improved. As some of them are members of the Hong Kong team, their training seldom touched upon basic skills, instead, more emphasis was placed upon higher level training, such as competition strategies. He said that compared with last year the team members shoulder greater pressure but they turned this pressure into motivation and morale, which pushed them to aim for the top title.
