Associate Professor of the Department of Humanities and Creative Writing Dr Wong Kwok-kui won the Best Playwright award for No News is True News at the 28th Hong Kong Drama Awards on 10 April. The play also won the Best Production and Best Actress honours at the ceremony.

Dr Wong revealed the importance of press freedom in his thank you speech and dedicated the award to all journalists in Hong Kong. He said: “‘Truth is Virtue’ is a frequent line in the play, while it is also the philosophy of the School of Communication at HKBU. I hope that all Hong Kong journalists will protect press freedom no matter what situation you have encountered.”

No News is True News, which was produced by the Windmill Grass Theatre, tells the story of a television news anchor and her great struggle in the news industry.
