Physical Education student crowned hurdles champion at Asian Games athletics test event
27 Feb 2018
Chan Chung-wang (Physical Education and Recreation Management, Year 1) not only won the championship but he also broke the Hong Kong record in 110-metre hurdles at the athletics test event of the Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Chung-wang won the race in 13.93 seconds, shattering the Hong Kong record of 13.97 seconds. He was pleasantly surprised by his performance as he focused on his training only in the last five months. Since the aim of taking part in this event was just to regain the feeling and rhythm of competition, he did not set any target for it.
Chung-wang said he applied what he newly learnt from the training, such as starting and running rhythm, and he tried to keep calm during the race which eventually enabled him to win. As one of the awardees under the Elite Athletes Admission Scheme, Chung-wang added that he will try his best to strike a good balance between his studies and training, and also to improve his speed to 13.66 seconds, which is the standard set by Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association for large-scale competitions.
