Dean of the School of Chinese Medicine Professor Lyu Aiping received an award from the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Industry Association for his outstanding accomplishment and contribution to Chinese medicine research.

Professor Lyu’s work focuses on translational research on Chinese medicines, including pharmacological and clinical evaluation of Chinese medicines for treating rheumatoid arthritis and related diseases, and discovery of new drugs to treat those diseases. Over the years, he has published more than 500 academic papers, over 30 books, and obtained more than 60 patents. Professor Lyu is a leading figure in the standardisation of Chinese medicine and has been serving as the Head of the Chinese delegation at plenary meetings of the International Organisation for Standardisation Technical Committee on TCM (ISO/TC249) since 2009.

Professor Lyu is of the view that there are ample opportunities for advancing Chinese medicine research, and is gratified to see close collaboration between the Chinese medicines industry and academia in raising the quality and safety of Chinese medicines, thereby contributing to public health.

Set up by the chairpersons of more than 20 Chinese medicines trade associations, the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Industry Association hosts a variety of activities every year to promote Chinese medicines, including the award presentation to honour quality Chinese medicines enterprises and individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the industry.
