Mr Liang Chao, PhD student of the School of Chinese Medicine, was presented with the 2015 Young Investigator Award by the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) for the second time for his outstanding achievement in bone research. One of five winners selected from contestants worldwide, Mr Liang, with sponsorship from ASBMR, attended the European Calcified Tissue Society (ECTS) PhD training course last month at the University of Siena, Italy.

Mr Liang Chao said he felt overjoyed when he got this valuable opportunity to learn about the latest findings in bone research from various experts and embark on an exchange with about 50 PhD students from around the world. He said the experience greatly benefited his studies and research.

Established in 1963, ECTS is committed to the promotion of research excellence within Europe in the field of calcified tissues to benefit patients suffering from metabolic bone disease. Hailed as one of the most innovative courses in bone studies, the ECTS PhD training course aims to enhance the understanding of bone diseases among budding investigators.
