Visual arts graduates claim awards at Fresh Trend 2020 Art Graduates Joint Exhibition
28 Oct 2020
Three graduates of the Academy of Visual Arts won awards at the Fresh Trend 2020 Art Graduates Joint Exhibition organised by the Hong Kong Art Network.
Maggie Wong Mei-ki won the Karin Weber Award for her mixed-media installation Decision Laboratory. Maggie’s artwork creates a surreal scene with perfume, which portrays a world between reality and illusion, for the audience to reflect on their lives.
Yeung Tsz-king’s ceramic installation The Sea won the Affordable Art Award. He wishes to bring out the message “as dwellers on the coast, people are blessed with the cryptic sea” from his work.
Tam Man-ho won the Fresh Trend Art Award 2020 for his mixed-media installation Brave Monument. It envisions an insightful blueprint of human society where the ugly and undesirable qualities of humanity have been removed, thereby enabling people to gain faith and drive in their lives.
The Exhibition, which has been held annually since 2005, aims to provide opportunities for art graduates from higher education institutions to showcase their works, promote exchange among institutions, and let the public know more about this new generation of artists. This year’s exhibition was held in October at the Hong Kong City Hall, and it showcased the works of around 50 graduates from Hong Kong, mainland China and Taiwan.
